Maikki and Jen have decided to extend their journey on a new path. Using their experiences to empower others and allow them to do the same. Cancer is only one obstacle in a world full of pain. We all have our own version of the same story, so live a life so good you’d want to read it over and over again.
On December 19, 2014, two friends were bonded through a living liver donor transplant and the term “Liver Sisters” was born. Barely stepping into her 30’s, Maikki was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, then Cholangiocarcinoma – yeah, not many had ever heard of it either. But the bottom line was pretty clear: bile duct cancer was a killer, and intensive chemotherapy, radiation, brachytherapy, and a liver transplant was the only path ahead. Little did Maikki and Jen realize how narrow the path would get, or the adventure of both hilarity and pain they would have to trudge through. Just as no one can predict a diagnosis of such magnitude, there are no warnings as to how empowered a person can become. How the power of relationships can bend the universe and change the course of life – defeat the killer – and open your eyes to just how bad you’ve been dying to truly go live.
